Happy Nowrooz!
Persian new year begins each year on March 20/21 which is for us 1st of
Farvardin. Farvardin is the first month of a year in our calender in Iran,
Tadjykistan and Afghanestan officially and also some regions in Iraq and
India and Pakistan non-officially.
We celebrate vernal equinox moment each year and this is the start point of
our calendar. Today morning, we began our new year at 00:49:45 GMT. It was
at 4:29' AM our time and we were awake until the time all night to prepare
"Haftsyn" table. It is a ceremony to choose 7 good things which their names
begin with the letter "S" (called the "Syn" letter in Farsi) and put them
all on a table infront of a mirror and goldfish and some things else. Our
Haftsyn this year includes 1- Syb = apple 2- Syr= garment
3-Somagh=Shumac/Sumac 4- Sekeh=coin 5-Samanoo=a brown sweet candy 6-
Sabzeh=sprouted wheat in a vase 7-Senjed=oleaster.
After preparing Haftsyn, we put the seven things seperated in a dish and put
the dish between the other stuff on the table. Somethings like painted
boiled egges, mirror, two candles, goldfish and also presents!
Then all members of a family sut relax by the Haftsyn table and wait for the
moment of staring new year. We pray for a lovely new year coming.
Nowrooz (Persian new year) is one of the few national celebration in the
world that is not related to society, belief religion, government and
politics. It is a celebration only depends on nature. The vernal equinox
moment of a year. When the astronomical spring begins since then.
Nowrooz (or sometimes written as Norouz) is the most ancient celebration in
Iran which is exists widely among Iranian people, where ever they live on
this planet. It is also the most important annual celebration in Tadjikistan
and Afghanestan and very honorful for kurdish people in Turkey and Iraq.
The age of the persian calender is 4803 years old but it was reset the
origin of the calender in 1382 years ago and for the reason it is our the
year 1382 for us.
